Idle No More: Former PM Paul Martin says aboriginal chief an inspiration
OTTAWA - Former prime minister Paul Martin says an aboriginal chief who has gone without solid food for close to a month is an inspiration to all Canadians.
Martin visited Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence at her camp on Ottawa's Victoria Island on Saturday.
He told CTV's Question Period today that it was a good meeting and that he told Spence people are concerned about her health.
Spence stopped eating solid food on Dec. 11 in a bid to secure a meeting between First Nations leaders, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Governor General to discuss the treaty relationship.
On Friday, Harper agreed to meet with the leaders this week.
But Spence has said she'll remain on her hunger strike at least until the meeting takes place.
